Mission Statement:
CodePINK is a women-initiated grassroots peace and social
justice movement working to end the war in Iraq, stop new wars,
and redirect our resources into healthcare, education and other
life-affirming activities. We reject the Bush administration's
fear-based politics that claim to justify violence, and instead
call for policies based on compassion, kindness and a commitment
to international law. With an emphasis on joy and humor, CodePINK
women and men seek to activate, amplify and inspire a community
of peacemakers through creative campaigns and a commitment to
non-violence.
Peace cannot be built on a foundation of
fear...
- fear produces war
- war produces retaliation
- retaliation produces retribution
- and desperation produces horrific acts on the part of those
who have nothing to lose.
By expanding our awareness and intention
of holding peace, being peace, speaking peace, we give voice
and power to peace, and open the doors for others to join us
in spirit and action, that is women, men and children listening
and working in collaboration to care for our family, community,
nation, world and universe. We imagine a world in which human
beings can negotiate peace through diplomacy, communication,
and honor and recognition of unmet needs. In the spirit of Mohatma
Ghandi and Martin Luther King, jr., Rigoberta Menchu, Dolores
Huerta and Wangari Mataai we believe that non-violence is the
way.
"Another world is not only
possible,
she is on her way.
On a quiet day, if you listen carefully,
you can hear her breathing."
- Arundhati Roy
CodePINK Taos
provides a venue for local women and men (who are comfortable
with women leading) to wage peace. We feature speakers, films,
forums, rallies and marches. We join with other local and national
groups to educate and counter the pablum we are fed by the pundits
and the daily newsmill of Bushspeak and war profiteering in the
name of "democracy and freedom". Not in our name! With
1 million Iraqi people dead and 5 million displaced, with over
4000 of our own soldiers dead and our returning Veterans contaminated
with "Depleted" Uranium from our own country's weapons,
we stand with Cindy Sheehan in asking ''for what noble cause''?
We support the total abolition of nuclear weapons and demand
that Los Alamos National Lab convert it's mission to clean-up
of toxic and radioactive waste it has produced.
Our campaigns
include: an effort to compel Governor Richardson to bring
our National Guard home from Iraq, a successful legislative
effort to allocate funding to test NM Veterans for Depleted
Uranium poisoning, gathering of signatures for the People's
Kyoto Agreement on Global Warming (U.N.), collections for
Madre's sister organization- Organization for Womens' Freedom
in Iraq which has established an underground railroad
for women who are escaping "honor killings" and
violence, public education regarding Los Alamos' plans
to become the premiere nuclear bomb-making facility in
the world, and more...
